METABOLISM 101

How fired up is your metabolism? 

(and most importantly… what the heck does it have to do with you getting pregnant!?)

Your metabolism is how effectively and efficiently your body uses and distributes fuel from the food you eat. 

Listen… for years metabolism has only been associated with weight. “Oh you're so lucky you have a fast metabolism and can eat whatever you want” or “I could eat like that too in my 20s until my metabolism slowed down”. 

 

Two things come to mind when hearing statements like that… 1) your metabolism doesn't HAVE to slow down just because you're in your 30s or 40s and 2) Metabolism is responsible for literally EVERY function in the body so much more than just our weight. It fuels our cells which make energy and fuel all of the metabolic processes in the body. 

 

Your metabolism is going to be at the root cause of ALL dysfunction and symptoms in the body.

 

Not ovulating? THATS A SYMPTOM! 

Anemic? THAT A SYMPTOM! 

Imbalanced hormones? YOU GUESSED IT… SYMPTOM!

BLOATING? … SYMPTOM!

 

People tend to look at all of these things as dysfunction that needs to be healed separately but at the end of the day they are all symptoms of metabolic dysfunction!

 

You heal the metabolism,  you end the dysfunction.

 

So how do you begin to heal your metabolism? 

Step 1

You have to EAT ENOUGH! 

I urge you to go to TDEE online calculator and find your maintenance calories! Then track your own calories for a few days. Are you under eating? How much protein are you getting? This all matters big time!

Step 2

You have to EAT OFTEN! 

Blood sugar regulation is huge when it comes to overall health but especially your metabolism! Glucose spikes and drops illicit a stress response in the body.By eating every few hours we can keep blood sugar stable. 

Step 3

You have to EAT BALANCED! 

Again,  I can't stress the importance of having balanced blood sugar.  By eating a protein, carb and fat with every meal and snack you can stop large blood sugar spikes. 

Step 4

You have to REST & RELAX!

Being stressed takes a LOT of energy and nutrients to manage. By prioritizing eating consistently, balanced and enough calories will help to rebuild nutrient stores and. restore energy we have to work to limit the stressors that are depleting us in the first place. 

Step 5 

You need to replenish Minerals.

Minerals are the spark plugs of the body. They act as cofactors and help to kick off enzyme reactions in the body. When we are stressed we are BURNING through our minerals, particularly sodium, potassium and magnesium! It is going to be imperative to replenish these minerals. My favorite way is with magnesium lotion,  epsom salt baths & adrenal cocktails!

So if you want to alleviate your symptoms and dysfunction and support your overall health, remember you HAVE TO support your metabolism.

Stop under eating, stop yo yo dieting, stop overexercising, stop not prioritizing sleep, stop not doing things to help you relax and destress! 

Implement the things above and I promise you will begin to feel VERY different!
